Golez back as fiscal, maintains "good relationship" with Tom

CEBU, Philippines – Following his resignation as city attorney, Atty. Rodolfo Golez returned to the city prosecutor’s office yesterday and re-assumed his post as Second Assistant City Prosecutor, the position he left when he started working for the city in 2006.

Golez said he enjoys the same benefits as the other city prosecutors and despite his resignation, reportedly maintains a “good relationship” with Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Citing health reasons, Golez tendered his resignation as city attorney effective January 22.

Before he resigned, however, Osmeña has ordered his replacement expressing dissatisfaction over Golez’ alleged failure to go after the taxes of schools and hospitals for two years.

Golez said that even before the issue of his alleged incompetence surface, he already planned to return to the city prosecutor’s office. He said he waived some benefits and promotions when he started working for the city government and spent for his own transportation because the city-issued vehicle was reportedly under repair.

Golez worked at City Hall from 1988-1991 during Osmeña’s first term as mayor and was then asked to join City Hall anew four years ago. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
