1 killed, 1wounded in Sibonga ambush

CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old man was killed while his brother was seriously injured when they were allegedly ambushed by their relatives in barangay Sayaw, Sibonga town around 5 p.m. last Tuesday.

Ramil Casilac Navares died on the spot while his younger brother, 22-year-old Rynloui, was in critical condition after the attack.

The assailants, who are reportedly cousins of the victims, voluntarily surrendered after the incident. They are identified as Roel Casilac, 21, and Agrifino Casilac. Their companion, Torciano Ceronay Jr., was arrested during a hot pursuit operation by the police.

SPO4 Rodilito Carillo of Sibonga Police Station said the victims were riding a motorcycle on their way home from playing basketball when the assailants opened fire at them.

Rynloui, who was driving the motorcycle, sustained wounds to his body and hand, while Ramil was hit in his chest. Rynloui was immediately brought to Deiparine Medical Clinic but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

SPO3 Ramon Padilla, officer-in-charge of Sibonga Police Station, said that a land dispute and personal grudge were the main motives for the crime.

The suspects have undergone a paraffin test yesterday at the police crime laboratory. A murder case will be filed against them tomorrow. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
