Police on alert against kidnaps

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador called on the public to be vigilant to avoid the recurrence of the incident in which a seven-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by two men the other day.

Although the incident may be just a case of simple abduction, Comendador urged parents to stay vigilant, saying that they should take their children themselves to and from school as much as possible.

Comendador directed Guadalupe Police Station to conduct an investigation into the incident. He said the abductors do not belong to a kidnap-for-ransom gang.

He instructed the police station to keep in touch with the relatives of the victim. The kid’s background should also be checked, he said.

He also ordered for a cartographic sketch of the abductors.

The police chief said they are also looking into whether there were five children inside the white van used by the abductors when the girl was allegedly abducted.

How the kid managed to escape from her abductors is also included in the investigation.

The girl claimed she was forced to get inside a white van while she was on her way to Oprra Elementary School around 8 a.m. the other day.

More policemen were deployed in the area following the incident, Comendador said. — Niña G. Sumacot/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
