UV lends crime laboratory to police

-

CEBU, Philippines – The University of the Visayas will be lending its crime laboratory to the Philippine National Police to help solve cases, a move very much welcomed by Police Regional Office Director Lani-O Nerez and City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador.

Nerez said they are grateful that UV Assistant Vice President for Administration Gerard Anthony Gullas has agreed to lend the school’s crime lab. He said they will formalize their partnership with UV through a Memorandum of Agreement.

Gullas, for his part, said the crime lab in UV is the best in Cebu and will surely help the police in their investigations.

The lack of facilities has been a problem with the police, as they only have one crime laboratory here in Cebu. This problem has been the reason why it takes a long time for the police to solve cases.

Nerez said it is about time that more personnel would be trained to handle a crime laboratory so more personnel can attend to cases.

Nerez said they are not worried that their move to use the crime lab at UV would be questioned in court.

Atty. Clarence Oaminal, Undersecretary of the Dangerous Drugs Board, said there is nothing wrong in using a non-government crime lab as long as the personnel examining evidences are that of the police. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
