2 hurt in separate stabbings in city
CEBU, Philippines – A 17-year-old boy and a taxi driver were injured in two separate stabbing incidents in Cebu City on Friday afternoon.
In the first incident, jealousy prompted Abner Aguilon, 19, to stab the 17-year-old boy (name withheld for being a minor), whom he accused of being the other lover of his girlfriend.
The victim alleged that at around 5 p.m., he was walking along Gov. Cuenco Avenue corner A.S. Fortuna Street, in Barangay Banilad when the suspect, who is harboring an ill feeling towards him suddenly stabbed him with a bladed instrument on the left portion of his body.
The minor alleged that prior to the incident, Aguilon had confronted him about his alleged relationship with the latter’s girlfriend. The suspect allegedly got mad at the victim because when he asked his girlfriend whom he will chose among them, the girl chose the victim.
Despite his injury, the 17-year-old allegedly still managed to run towards his house several meters away and was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center by his relatives.
About 30 minutes later, Joel Flores, 38, a taxi driver, was also stabbed by his neighbor, Georich Mirafuentes, 20, a construction worker on Cabantan Street, barangay Luz.
Based on the account of a witness, Flores was about to enter to his residence when the suspect suddenly stabbed him on the left side of his body with a knife.
Mirafuentes allegedly tried to stab the victim for the second time but the latter was able to parry the attack and managed to run inside his house.
The victim was taken to Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect, who was believed to have been harboring grudge against the victim, was later arrested at his residence. —Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
