Old monastery appeals for donations

-

CEBU, Philippines – To accommodate the growing number of its visitors who come to the monastery for prayers and spiritual counseling, the Poor Clare Monastery located in the remote area of Tayud, Consolacion is in urgent need for the construction of a new building.

Poor Clare Monastery is a community of 26 nuns who are serving the church of Cebu for about 34 years now as a praying community.

They are currently occupying a two-hectare lot owned by the Mission Society of the Philippines in Tayud which has been their site since the foundation was established in Cebu in 1975.

“Our present concern is our receiving quarters which have not been spared by termites, of which ceilings and roofs have started to fall, worse, whenever it rains,” monastery abbess Ma. Teresita Bajarias said.

She also said that they are praying to be able to construct a new building that will replace the current one to give their visitors a nicer, more concrete, more convenient and more spacious receiving quarters.

To materialize this, they would need financial support from some “Good Samaritans” whom they believe would be called by God to be His instruments in answering their prayers.

Donations can be directed to the Poor Monastery Office in Tayud, Consolacion or through the Daughters of Saint Paul Convent located along Osmeña Boulevard (formerly Jones Avenue). — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
