New set of "Halad sa Kapamilya" scholars awarded
CEBU, Philippines - The new batch of 25 college scholars under the “Libreng Eskwela, Halad sa Kapamilya Year 2” project of the Rotary Club of Cebu-Fuente, Systems Technology Institute, and ABS-CBN Central Visayas were awarded yesterday.
Fifteen scholars availed of the Associate Degree program in Information Technology, nine enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree program in InfoTech, and one passed to take up Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at the STI College.
These scholars passed the examinations and series of interviews out of around 300 who applied for the scholarship grant.
According to Rebecca Ancheta, deputy school administrator of STI-Cebu, the scholars are required to maintain a 1.75 grade for each subject per semester.
In his privilege speech, Rotary Club of Cebu-Fuente president Rady Abarintos called on the recipients to serve as role models. “A privilege such as this would make you aware also of the responsibility that comes along with it…the essential quality of being an exemplar. Be a role model so to speak,” he said.
“Being a scholar is more than just getting good grades, it is also embarking on an attitude of learning to love learning,” Abarintos added.
Also, it was learned from ABS-CBN head Tata Cinco that unlike the previous year, the project now caters to students from outside of Metro Cebu.
