Customs ups collection in Central Visayas

CEBU, Philippines – The Collection District VII of the Bureau of Customs has increased its collections despite the slowdown in the number of importations.

Based on the monthly collection report prepared by Collection Section chief Conrado Abarintos, Collection District VII posted a total collection of P511,110,685.04, which is P2,470,685.04 higher than its target of P508,640,000 for the month of May.

From January to May this year, BOC posted a total collection of P2,303,356,721.83, higher by P49,516,721.83 from its target of P2,253,840,000.

Of the three ports under the BOC-CCD VII, only the Port of Cebu posted a positive collection while the ports of Mactan and Dumaguete City posted a negative collection for the month of May.

The Port of Cebu posted a surplus of P35,793,101.04 for the month of May as it was able to collect P465,009,101.04 from its target collection of P429,216,000.

It is ahead of P88,376,066.55 in a five-month collection period after it was able to collect P2,068,126,066.55 from its target of P1,979,750,000.

But the Port of Dumaguete, which consistently earned a positive collection for the last four months, incurred a negative collection for the month of May, collecting only P226,547 from a target of P2.3 million.

However, the Port of Dumaguete posted an over-all surplus within the five-month period by P21,341,591.16. The port has an assigned target of P4,879,000 but collected P26,220,591.16 over the same period.

On the other hand, the sub-port of Mactan incurred a negative collection of P60,2000,935.88 in the five-month period as it only collected P209,010,064.12 from its target of P269,211,000.

The subport of Mactan also posted a negative collection in January, February, April and May.
