CEBU, Philippines - A young mother is now detained at the Women’s Desk of the Cebu City Police Office after her own siblings complained that she sold her more than a year old child for P300.
Josephine Ligo, 19, of Sitio Kalinaw, barangay Mabolo allegedly sold her one year and three months old son to a certain Roger Demol.
The complainants, Madel Domingo and Vincent Ligo, said that they became worried for their nephew after seeing their sister going around without her son.
Domingo said they learned that their sister first asked her employer, a certain Josephine Paglinawan, the owner of the restaurant where she worked, if she could leave the child to her. When Paglinawan refused, the suspect allegedly offered to sell the child to the bus driver, who is a regular customer of the eatery.
The driver reportedly agreed and Josephine asked him to pay her P100 in exchange for the boy. But afterwards, she allegedly asked for another P200.
As of yesterday, Domingo said that they are still waiting for the bus driver to appear. Domingo said their sister denied the allegations that she sold her own son, saying she just gave him away without asking for anything in return.
However, Domingo said several people claimed they saw Josephine receiving money from the driver.
Domingo said that earlier, Josephine also asked her if she could leave the child with them but she refused.
Domingo said that for now, they have not yet made up their mind whether to file charges against Josephine or not because they are focusing on finding the child.
