A councilman of barangay San Jose of Poro town in Camotes Island has filed a criminal complaint against a resident of his barangay who allegedly assaulted him when he was trying to pacify a commotion that the respondent himself instigated.
Eduardo Garciano filed a complaint for direct assault against Raul Castro Jr. against the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office yesterday. Castro is the son of the former chief tanod of barangay San Jose.
Garciano said that early evening on May 24, he received reports of a commotion in Sitio Patag so he went to the place to verify it.
Upon reaching the place, Garciano said he saw Castro allegedly strangling a certain Henry Dampios Sr., which prompted him to intervene. However, Castro reportedly got irked and hit Garciano with a stone, causing serious injuries on his face and head.
Garciano said he had to undergo intensive medical treatment in Cebu City due to the seriousness of his injuries. In a separate incident, the Asturias police filed a separate charge for direct assault against a suspected drug pusher who allegedly pushed a policeman to resist frisking.
Asturias Police chief Gerard Ace Jumawan Pelare filed the complaint against Gideon Genise who was suspected to be selling illegal drugs during a disco party in barangay Poblacion, Asturias last May 25.
However, when they approached Genise, the latter allegedly pushed the police officer who tried to frisk him. A subsequent body search later yielded one packet of shabu from Genise amounting to P4,627 believed to be proceeds of illegal drugs. — Fred P. Languido/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
