Comendador dares airport official to prove claims on Ylanan shooting

City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador has challenged the airport official who suggested that the shooting of Chief Insp. George Ylanan was not accidental to come out into the open and prove his claim.

Comendador also made the challenge to airport personnel who said a “love triangle” had triggered the shooting, as Ylanan’s wife allegedly caught the police officer with another woman at the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Comendador said people cannot just issue statements without supporting evidence and until they can do so, status quo would be observed.

The airport official who asked not to be named earlier challenged the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office to dig deeper into the incident.

Since the shooting questions have surfaced how the incident could happen to someone who is an expert on handling firearms. Ylanan is the chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of the city police.

Ylanan was getting off his vehicle outside the departure area of MCIA when the incident happened at shortly past midnight the other day. Ylanan, who was sending off someone, reportedly pulled out his caliber .45 pistol from his waist to leave it inside the vehicle when it went off and his the policeman on the stomach.

Comendador said a paraffin test is no longer needed, as Ylanan and his wife have both admitted the firing was accidental.

Comendador advised the public to refrain from making insinuations and instead should just wait for Ylanan to make a statement himself, something that LLCPO Acting Police Director Marinao Natuel agreed to.

Ylanan is currently recuperating at the Intensive Care Unit of the Chong Hua Hospital.

Supt. Joselito Solido, director of the Police Center for Aviation and Security-7, earlier said no commotion has occurred between Ylanan and his wife before the incident.

He said that the airport’s CCTV camera had captured Ylanan’s arrival and a woman disembarking from his car’s passenger side. The next scene captured by the camera was a taxicab beside Ylanan’s vehicle pulling out from the parking area to rush the police officer to the hospital. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
