P20 million lost in MEPZ 1 fire

-

CEBU, Philippines - An estimated P20 million worth of property was lost in a fire that swept through one of the departments of a company in the Mactan Export Processing Zone 1 along 5th Street, barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City past 2 a.m. yesterday.

Investigating officer FO3 Rico Javines of the Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department said that the fire appears to have started at the cleaning room of the Integrated Micro-electronics Inc.

However, the exact cause of the 20-minute fire is still under investigation.

Javines said that the damage will possibly increase as the cleaning room contained several machines allegedly costing at least P8 million each.

They are still investigating how many machines were destroyed.

Nobody was reportedly hurt or killed during the incident. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
