2 hurt in separate stabbing incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were hurt the other night in different stabbing incidents in Cebu City.

The first incident happened in Bayanihan Village, barangay Basak-Pardo wherein 15-year-old Caryl Merced was stabbed by Mary Jane Negro, the lover of his father William Jimeno.

The victim, a 2nd year high school student, told police that Negro came to their house past 7 p.m. and kept badmouthing the victim’s mother, Ma. Teresa Merced.

The older Merced then went out of the house to face Negro and a fight consequently ensued between her and the suspect that prompted Caryl to intervene.

The suspect reportedly took out a knife that she was bringing then and stabbed the girl before running away.

The victim, who was wounded on the upper left arm, was taken by her mother to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Responding policemen failed to locate the suspect in her residence at sitio Mayupay, brgy. Quiot. Honeylyn Merced, a cousin of the victim, alleged that they heard allegations that the suspect uses illegal drugs.

Police are now preparing appropriate charges against the suspect, who remains at large.

In another incident, Getter Perolino, 26, was allegedly stabbed by a certain Paking along Osmeña Blvd. in barangay Sambag I.

Police believe that the motive of the stabbing is merely for thrill as Paking is known to hang out in the area.

The victim is a native of barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental and temporarily residing in sitio Le-ong, brgy. Alang-Alang, Mandaue City.

Perolino was reportedly waiting for somebody when attacked.

The suspect reportedly sneaked from behind and suddenly stabbed him with a pointed weapon for no apparent reason.

The victim who was wounded on the right side portion of his back was taken by his friend, a jeepney driver, to the Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect fled. — Niña G. Sumacot/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
