San Remigio inaugurates new road
CEBU, Philippines - The newly-asphalted 2.1 kilometer provincial road in barangay Cayam, San Remigio has opened up the interior portion of the area that has not seen so much progress in the past due to bad road condition.
San Remigio Mayor Marino Martinez said the asphalted road was a dream come true for their town.
“It’s like a dream come true. For several years motorists tried to avoid trudging this road because of its bad condition, now they keep on coming back,” he said.
Martinez joined Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during the inauguration of the Mano-Kayam provincial road that stretches from the national road in barangay Mano towards the interior barangay of Kayam. The total cost of the project was P4.173 million.
The inauguration of the Mano-Kayam road, according to Martinez, means all of the provincial roads in his town are now asphalted and offer smooth riding experience to residence and visitors.
After the inauguration, Martinez and Garcia proceeded to the town’s parish plaza for the celebration of its 2nd Lapyahan Festival, a festival named after the town’s white sand beaches and for having the longest shoreline in Cebu province.
Martinez said that “Lapyahan” was not supposed to be the original name of the festival but after undergoing a seminar on festival management, they had chosen the name “lapyahan,” a Cebuano word meaning shoreline.
The festival was participated by five dancing contingents, each interpreted the history of the town, highlighting San Remigio’s reputation for having the longest shoreline in the province. — Garry B. Lao/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
