Moneylender barred from Palace of Justice

CEBU, Philippines – The executive judge of the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City barred a moneylender who has been preying on court employees and using government office during office hours.

Judge Mienrado Paredes yesterday issued a memorandum to Engineer Isagani Saranillo to bar Victor Yu from operating his business inside the maintenance office of the Palace of Justice.

According to Paredes, he received several complaints that Saranillo allowed the use of his office as venue for Yu’s lending and rediscounting business even during office hours.

The media also received complaints questioning Yu’s use of government facility in his private business.

The Freeman observed that some court employees, even during office hours, would line up at the maintenance office of the Marcelo Fernan Hall of Justice to borrow money from Yu.

Sources said that Yu has been doing his business inside the Palace of Justice for more than a decade now. — Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
