Woman killed, husband severely wounded in Alegria robbery

-

CEBU, Philippines - Unidentified person killed a woman and seriously wounded her husband during a robbery inside the couple’s house in the mountain barangay of Compostela, Alegria town shortly after midnight last Saturday.

Police said 79-year-old Lucia Letegio died in the hospital while her husband Damiano, 81, remains in critical condition at the hospital after they were beaten with a wood on their heads by a robber who barged into their house and stole more than P20,000 cash before fleeing.

PO2 Ronald Caño of Alegria police said that the fatality suffered several cuts in the head that led to her sudden death while Damiano is still fighting for his life at the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City as of yesterday.

Investigation revealed that the Letegio couple is engaged in money lending and the money that was stolen by the perpetrator was believed to be used in their business.

The victims reportedly have children who work abroad and only have a daughter who lives with them.

However, that time when the incident happened, their daughter was allegedly in the town proper. Several hours before the fateful event, she allegedly went to the town proper to buy something and was not able to go back home because it was evening already, so she decided to sleep in the house of a friend.

Barangay councilman Querico Loquillano reported the incident to the police at around 11 a.m. yesterday after the victims were taken to the hospital.

The police are still clueless on the identity of the perpetrator but a follow-up investigation is now being conducted for his possible identification. – Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
