Woman shoots self over "failed date"

CEBU, Philippines – A woman shot herself on the head right in front of her boyfriend’s house after her lover reportedly failed to show up in a date she has arranged for them.

The incident happened past 2pm yesterday in sitio Summerland, barangay Inayawan. The victim was identified as Jackilyn Reyes, 30, a resident of sitio Tunog, also in barangay Inayawan.

Carding Daclan, chief tanod of barangay Inayawan, said it was past midday yesterday when the mother of Reyes’ boyfriend, Edsel Tiu, reported to the barangay that Reyes allegedly sent threats to her son that something bad would happen to him or to her if he would not meet or talk to her.

At 2pm, Reyes allegedly went to Tiu’s residence and when she could not find Edsel, she shot herself right in front of the gate.

Tanods who responded to the incident found Reyes already lifeless on the ground, drenched in her own blood.

The .38 caliber pistol Reyes reportedly is now under the custody of the police. Reyes was taken to the San Fernando Funeral Homes. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
