Cops arrest suspect in councilman's slay

-

CEBU, Philippines - Police have arrested a man allegedly involved in the killing of a barangay councilman of Olango, Aloguinsan, last Saturday night.

The suspect was identified as a certain Edmart Ian Delica, 20, a resident of barangay Saksak of the said town.

Police also said that they thought there were only three suspects who shot dead barangay councilman Primitivo Satera Sr., 49, but most likely there were five.

Satera was shot dead around midnight last Saturday in Olango, Aloguinsan, allegedly by neighbors after he reprimanded one of them for repeated reckless driving of a motorcycle in their area.

PO2 Marlon Pepito of the Aloguinsan police station said that the victim was about to go home together with his 16-year-old son, Vicente, from a benefit dance nearby when five men shot him five times.

The victim was rushed to the Carcar District Hospital but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.

Barangay tanods arrested a certain Eleno Barcinilla, 39, a resident of the said place, immediately after the incident and turned him over to the police.

Authorities recovered an abandoned blue motorcycle which was later found out to be owned by Eleno’s nephew, 21-year-old Rey Barcinilla.

Police said the principal suspect of the crime is Rey, who was positively identified by the councilman’s son, Vicente.

According to the responding policeman, Rey has been scolded many times by the victim for alleged reckless driving. —Christopehr Gabriel C. Bonjoc and Guam Logroño/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
