Micro-infra projects seen to benefit 9,423 inmates

-

CEBU, Philippines - A total of 9,423 inmates in selected district, city and municipal jails nationwide are expected to benefit from micro-infrastructure projects worth P7 million in a bid to improve their living conditions.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the International Committee of the Red Cross have forged an agreement to jointly undertake the projects expected to be completed by December 31.

In a statement, DILG Undersecretary Marius Corpus said that the micro-infrastructure projects include installation of water supply, sanitation, ventilation, improvement of physical facilities, and the putting up of biodigesters in the target jail beneficiaries.

It is also stipulated in the joint agreement that technical trainings will be provided this year to BJMP engineers nationwide and the staff in charge of jail maintenance and rehabilitation. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
