Councilman shot dead for scolding neighbor
CEBU, Philippines – A 49-year-old barangay councilman was shot to death around midnight yesterday in barangay Olango, Aloguinsan town allegedly by neighbors for reprimanding one of them on repeated reckless driving of a motorcycle in their area.
PO2 Marlon Pepito of the Aloguinsan Police Station said that the victim identified as Primitivo Satera, Sr. was about to go home together with his 16-year-old son, Vicente, from a benefit dance nearby for their fiesta celebration when three men shot him five times.
The victim was rushed to the Carcar District Hospital but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
Barangay tanods arrested one Eleno Barcinilla, 39 years old, a resident of the said place and turned him over to the police officers.
Authorities recovered an abandoned blue motorcycle which was later found out to be owned by Eleno’s nephew, 21-year-old Rey Barcinilla.
Police learned that the principal suspect of the crime is Rey, who was positively identified by the councilman’s son, Vicente.
According to the responding policeman, Rey was scolded many times by the victim for alleged reckless driving.
“Sige na man diay kuno ning makasab-an si Rey aning konsehal kay grabe man kaayo mopadagan sa iyang motor; mora’g siya’y tag-iya sa karsada. Giingnan naman diay gani ni sa biktima nga i-bring up ang iyang kabadlongon sa konseho,” Pepito said. — Christoper Gabriel C. Bonjoc and Guam Logroño of Banat News/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
