Cop mauled, robbed in San Fernando town
CEBU, Philippines – A policeman, who was earlier recommended to be dismissed from service, was mauled and robbed by two men evening last Tuesday in barangay Pitalo, San Fernando town.
The victim was identified as PO1 Dave Agcol, 32, a resident of barangay Inayagan, Naga City who was assigned at the Police Security Group of the Provincial Police Office. The suspects were identified as brothers Peter and Joel Abaquita.
The suspects allegedly mauled Agcol first before taking his Yamaha Crypton motorcycle and firearm away.
Investigation revealed that Agcol went to barangay Pitalo, San Fernando to look for his family’s former house help, a certain Jack Morales, who allegedly stole his wife’s mobile phone.
When he later learned that the unit was sold to a certain Emma, Agcol reportedly sat on his motorcycle to contemplate on his next move when the two suspects appeared and mauled him. They later got his firearm and used his motorcycle in leaving the area.
Police said the suspects might be relatives of Morales or had an axe to grind against Agcol when the policeman was still with the provincial anti-illegal drugs group.
CPPO Officer-in-Charge Erson Digal said that Agcol was recommended for dismissal after he failed to attend the hearings conducted on those who was found positive in the random drug testing in August last year.
Digal said they are now finding out whether the firearm Agcol was bringing with him was still his service firearm or was a personal gun.
In a separate incident in San Fernando, a certain Antonio Polinar, 59, was robbed of his belongings and money late evening Tuesday.
Polinar said he and his family were already sleeping when robbers entered their house and stole his laptop worth P46,000, Nokia cellphone worth P26,000 and two wristwatches worth P26,000 that were placed in the sala.
The suspects also stole Polinar’s wallet that contained P1,500 cash, identification cards and a driver’s license.
Polinar said the robbers were able to get inside the house of the victim by detaching the jalousie blades. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
