City fast-tracking repair of streets
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City acting mayor Michael Rama yesterday had a meeting with the other officials of the city to discuss ways on how to fast-track the asphalting of roads and the repair of cross drainage systems, lights and other infrastructures.
According to Rama, the asphalting project’s initial procedures such as patching have already been started and a budget for the project has already been allocated. He added that the budget will be processed as the project progresses. Earlier, city officials disclosed that up to P138 million in funding is intended for repairs and asphalting of damaged roads in the city.
According to Rama, the city intends to implement the project before the year ends and that the services will continue even after the elections.
The acting mayor did not release the names of specific barangays and streets that are currently undergoing the patching procedure but he said that the prioritized areas are those that requested for asphalting, given that the road to be fixed is public and proven in need of repair.
Rama emphasized that in the project, “efficiency is highlighted.” Issues on solid waste management, garbage collection and landfills will also be confronted, he added.
In the same meeting, Rama also expressed his intention to “totally address” the continuing complaints on constructions being done in the evening and the noise they make. “Ingon sila naa daw permit to do it. Permit to do what? To make noise?” Rama said, adding he wants the matter checked.
Rama stresses the need for a way to address the problem, given the fact that the city has an anti-noise ordinance. He said there must be a way to minimize the noise during the construction period. — Karen Grace H. Yasi (THE FREEMAN)
