CHED to hold annual regional assembly in June

-

CEBU, Philippines – The Commission on Higher Education in Cebu will have its annual regional assembly with the heads of private and public higher education institutions in Central Visayas in June.

The assembly is intended to give the institutions some updates on the CHED Memorandum Order released by the central office.

The memorandum order contains the directives coming from the central office regarding their new policies, amendments and others.

When asked about the status of expected enrollees for higher education this class opening in June, CHED Education Supervisor II Efren Sucaldito said that they are expecting a decrease in the number of enrollees due to the global economic crisis.

Sucaldito explained that CHED has anticipated the problem and has conducted conferences with different schools regarding this matter. One of which was the conference at the University of the Visayas last June 26.

“Schools in Region 7 decided to decrease by 10 percent their tuition fee. This is to respond to the plight of the poor Filipino people,” Sucaldito said.

Among the schools implementing the 10-percent tuition decrease is the UV and the University of Cebu.

Aside from the benefits received by the students from tuition fee discounts, CHED also encouraged the students to apply for the different scholarship programs offered by the CHED and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority; scholarships provided by NGOs and commercial establishments such as Chowking and Jollibee, and many more.

As of now, CHED is preparing for the turnover and blessing of their newly constructed office at the Ecotech Center in barangay Lahug, Cebu City this June.

They also have a joint program with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources called “Search for the Most Environmentally Friendly Higher Education Institution in the Region.” – Quennie Rose Olaño and Mark Gantuangco (THE FREEMAN)
