Sexagenarian jumps off 4-story apartment

-

CEBU, Philippines – A 60-year-old man ended his life by jumping off the rooftop of a four-story apartment his family is living in along Sanciangko Street early yesterday morning.

Cristoto Camatura, a native of San Vicente, Leyte, died the instant his head hit the concrete road.

His wife, Anecita, said Camatura had attempted to commit suicide twice in just a week since they arrived here in Cebu for a vacation, but they never expected that he would do so again yesterday considering that he only told them he would go out for a stroll.

As it turned out, Camatura never left the apartment building but instead went up the rooftop where he jumped off.

Police investigation showed no foul play in Camatura’s death.

Anecita said her husband was reportedly disheartened when his siblings had “abandoned” him while they were still in Bohol. Camatura has also been complaining of intense pain in his head after he underwent an operation at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center sometime last year for a ruptured vein.

Anecita said this was what reportedly prompted them to spend a vacation here in Cebu and to also have his head re-checked.

They stayed with their daughter Charylyn who was renting the third floor of the Naya building beside University of San Carlos gym along Sanciangko Street.

Charylyn said an argument ensued between her and her father last Monday night after Camatura kept on mentioning that he would kill himself. He, however, reportedly apologized to them eventually. – Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
