RAFI to rehabilitate 10 schools in 4 towns

-

CEBU, Philippines - Children in 10 public elementary schools in the province will soon be in a conducive learning environment as the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. sustains Phase 2 of its School Rehabilitation Project on the renovation of old and dilapidated classrooms.

RAFI yesterday signed memoranda of agreement between 10 schools of the towns of Boljoon and Badian in southern Cebu, and Pilar and Poro in Camotes Island which comprise the third batch of schools covered in the second phase of the said project.

RAFI collaborates with the Department of Education-Cebu Province Division, the provincial government, the local government units, school officials, and community stakeholders for the implementation of the project that aims to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

Says Dominica Chua, chief operating officer of RAFI, “it takes a community to educate a child.”

The foundation will provide P8.2 million for construction materials, with Boljoon spending around P680,000; Badian, P371,000; Pilar, P950,000; and Poro, P508,000 as labor counterparts.

“Education is a serious responsibility,” RAFI president Roberto “Bobby” Aboitiz said.

RAFI, he assured, will continue to address the problem, preparing the youth, as they want the Philippines of tomorrow to be the best.   Aboitiz also urged the LGUs and other stakeholders to take the obligation and join them in this crusade to build a better Philippines of tomorrow.

Phase II-Batch III of the School Rehabilitation Project will run for about two to three months depending on the type of schools repaired.

The Phase 1 of the project was implemented from 2004 to 2008. It rehabilitated a total of 255 classrooms in 75 schools of 22 municipalities, benefiting around 10,000 schoolchildren all over Cebu Province. — Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
