Two injured in Carreta shootings

-

CEBU, Philippines - A 31-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy landed at the hospital after they figured in separate shooting incidents in barangay Carreta yesterday and the other day.

The incident yesterday occurred past 1am when the victim, Enrique Alfon, 31, tried to go between his co-workers Rolando Canta and Lolito Makaraya who engaged in a fist fight. When Canta pulled out his gun, Alfon ended up getting shot instead.

The three, along Herson Losande, another co-worker at Excel Construction Radison Hotel, were having a drinking spree at A-One Eatery in barangay Carreta when a heated argument reportedly ensued between Canta and Makaraya.

Alfon said he only wanted to pacify the two but Makaraya allegedly punched him, which prompted him to fight back. It was at that time when Makaraya allegedly pulled out his gun and shot him, hitting him at the upper left portion of his chest.

Canta managed to flee, as Makaraya rushed Alfon to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Alfon, married, is a native of Makati City and only temporarily resides at a bunkhouse near the A-One Eatery in barangay Carreta.

Meanwhile, the other incident in barangay Carreta happened 8 p.m. the other day at Pier 5 when a 12-year-old boy was shot by a still-unidentified person.

Investigation revealed that the victim and his five friends, all minors, were gathering scrap metal near the Sulpicio van yard. The victim was about to climb the fence of the yard when he heard a gunshot, which prompted him to stoop close to the ground.

He later felt pain his left calf and realized he had been hit by the bullet. He was first taken to the Mabolo Police Station 4 and subsequently to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
