BIN member shot in San Nicolas

CEBU, Philippines – A member of the Barangay Intelligence Network landed at the hospital after he was shot by an unidentified assailant the other night at T. Abella Street, barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.

Nelson Sanchez, 44, a resident of barangay Ermita, was on board a motorcycle near St. Mary Academy with his live-in partner on their way to San Nicolas police station when a man suddenly emerged from a dark portion and fired shots at them.

Sanchez alleged the bullets successively grazed his chin, hitting the upper portion of his right arm.

Although wounded, the victim managed to accelerate the speed of his black Honda wave motorcycle until he reached the police station where he then asked for assistance.

The victim was then rushed to St. Vincent General Hospital by some of the police station’s personnel while the others pursued the perpetrator who was seen running towards C. Padilla st. but to no avail.

The perpetrator was described to be about 5’3 or 5’4 tall, medium built, and was wearing a black T-shirt and maong pants.

Investigation revealed that the victim, being a member of the BIN, does intelligence and gather information against illegal drug activities in the area which was seen as the motive of the incident.

According to Homicide investigators, Sanchez has reported to the police quite a number of individuals involved in the illegal activity who were consequently arrested. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
