Couple gets 20 years for drug possession
CEBU, Philippines - A couple was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was ordered to pay a fine of P1 million after having been found guilty of possession of shabu.
Lloyd and Juanita Minguito were arrested by the police for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act. More than six grams of shabu and some drug paraphernalia were recovered by police from their house.
During the police operation, Lloyd eluded arrest but was later arrested by police.
In his decision, Regional Trial Court Branch 13 Judge Meinrado Paredes said: “It must be remembered that the search warrant was against both spouses. They were owners of the house searched, anything in it belongs to them.”
However, Juanita was cleared of the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia because scissors and weighing scale are not considered as shabu paraphernalia. — Jasmin R. Uy/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
