Fire hits supermarket bodega

-

CEBU, Philippines - Property estimated to be worth around P5 million went up in smoke as the warehouse at the corner of Magallanes and F. Gonzales Streets was gutted in a late afternoon fire the other day.

The fire, which destroyed the warehouse that reportedly stored grocery items for the La Nueva Supermarket, owned by couple Julian and Martina Uy, occurred at past 5 p.m. and was controlled in 37 minutes.

Initial investigation showed that the warehouse was totally burned while the ceiling on the second floor of the Kong Nen Trading, next to the warehouse, was partially destroyed.

Further investigation is conducted by SFO1 Nilo Daculan to determine the cause of the blaze.

The Pahina Central and Pari-an Fire Stations and the policemen from the Waterfront Police Station were the first to respond to the incident. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
