The DATE, which will be administered by examiners from the College of Education of UP Diliman, will start at 8 a.m. at Room 302 of the Arts and Sciences Building of UP Cebu College.

Walk-in applicants are accepted and may take the exam if they will be able to submit the requirements like the correctly and completely accomplished application for admission to UPOU graduate programs.

To be submitted also are the original copy and photocopy of Transcript of Records for all degrees earned, letters of recommendation from supervisor or employer and medical certification issued by a licensed physician and two 2x2 and one 1x1 identical colored photos with white background.

The application and testing fee of P500 each must be paid and applicants are also required to submit a 500-word essay indicating the purpose for applying to the Ph.D. in Education program with attached Certificate of Teaching Load.

DATE is required for applicants of the Doctor of Philosophy in Education program of UPOU currently offered for the first semester of Academic Year 2009 to 2010. DATE aims to assess the mental aptitude, language proficiency either in English or Filipino and research competency of applicants.

It shall partially determine whether applicants are qualified to take the Doctor of Philosophy in Education which is designed primarily for teacher educators, policy makers, researchers and other educational personnel involved in science and mathematics education.

The UPOU’s program has four areas of specialization which includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics Education.

Except for Science and Mathematics courses that should be taught face-to-face during summer terms, all courses are taught in the distance education mode.

For admission, applicants must complete several requirements which include a Master’s degree in the basic sciences or in mathematics education and a general weighted average of “2.0,” “B” or better in the undergraduate level and “1.75” or better in the master’s level. — Jessica Ann R.
