CEBU, Philippines – Seeking permission to get married these trying times may not sound appealing to some fathers.
A woman who approached her father to get permission for settling down was instead hacked by her father at around 3 p.m. last Monday in barangay Cantao-an, Naga City.
According to PO2 Miguel Castañares, desk officer of the Naga City Police Station, 19-year-old Joan Caballero asked permission from her father, 53-year-old Rosendo Caballero, that she be allowed to tie knots with her boyfriend.
But her father got irked upon hearing this which resulted to an argument. In the process, her father allegedly got his scythe and hacked her in the neck.
Joan was then rushed to the nearest hospital. It was learned that the victim sustained a slight injury on her neck.
Police officers immediately went to the area, arrested the suspect, and detained him at the Naga City Police Station.
When Castañares asked the suspect as to why he had responded with rage, Rosendo said that as a father he would want to see his daughter finish high school first before she sets her priority on marriage as “we are in difficult times.”
Information gathered revealed that Rosendo has eight children - some have already completed high school while some have not, including Joan.
However, the victim together with her aunt went to the police station yesterday morning to inform the authorities she is not anymore interested in filing a case against her father. – Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
