City giving police car, firetruck to Poblacion Pardo

-

CEBU, Philippines – After several years of being deprived of assistance by the city government, barangay Poblacion Pardo will soon receive a new police vehicle and a dump truck from the Cebu City Hall.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña has recently approved the request for funds of newly installed barangay captain Fermin Dasmariñas, an ally of the Bando Osmeña Pundok-Kauswagan (BOPK), for the purchase of the said vehicles.

The mayor has allowed the City Council to appropriate P1.1 million for the Dasmariñas’ request that would be charged to the city’s Pagcor funds.

Dasmariñas claimed his barangay had experienced difficulties in giving effective and efficient services to its constituents because of the lack of serviceable vehicles.

Councilors Augustus Pe Jr. and Roberto Cabarrubias said the granting of such request to barangay Poblacion Pardo would greatly help in the implementation of projects of the barangay officials.

Aside from the request of the police vehicle and garbage truck, Dasmariñas also intends to ask for more assistance from the city to improve his barangay’s basic services.

The city had stopped giving support to the barangay during the term of former barangay captain Danilo Lim, an ally of the opposition.

The barangay’s vehicles used to receive fuel allocation from the city but Osmeña ordered it stopped some two years ago, including the granting of additional honorarium to its garbage collectors.

The court had recently declared Dasmariñas as the barangay captain of Poblacion Pardo following a recount, which showed that he got 134 votes more than Lim.

Lim had filed an appeal before the Commission on Elections in Manila but his appeal was later dismissed on the grounds that it was filed beyond the reglementary period. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
