Police arrest man for shabu

CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested by virtue of a search warrant yesterday morning in sitio Lawis, barangay Pasil, Cebu City, after being seized with several packs of shabu.

Isabelo Fernandez, Jr., also known as “JR” to his neighbors, was arrested by police yesterday after four packs of various sizes containing a white substance believed to be shabu were seized from him around 6:30 a.m. in his house along Magsaysay St.

Aside from the four packs of alleged shabu, three empty plastic packs, two improvised funnels, three disposable lighters, four cellular phones and P28,000 cash in different denominations believed to be proceeds from drug sales were also confiscated from Fernandez.

Elements of the San Nicolas police station led by Insp. Renero Agustin conducted the search which was implemented by station chief Sr. Insp. Elezar Abrigana. The search warrant was issued by Judge Soliver Peras of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 10.

During the search, a representative from the media, Emilio Alvarado of radio station dySS and an elected official of barangay Sawang Calero, Joselito Echiverre, were there to serve as witnesses.

Also present during the search as witness was Gregorio Abejo, chief tanod of barangay Pasil and barangay tanod Edwin Tagalog.

The suspect is now detained and charges for the violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are set to be filed against him today. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
