Capitol offers valedictorians workshop
CEBU, Philippines - Students graduating as valedictorian from public and private high schools in the province will have the opportunity to undergo a workshop and apprenticeship in government through the “A Salute to the Valedictorians” program initiated by Capitol.
Dr. Mathia Baguia, head of Capitol’s Public Employment Service Office, said the program will run for 22 days wherein recipients will be exposed to the day-to-day business of government. Likewise, they will get to undergo a two-day seminar on values and leadership and a day to experience the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” tour.
The program, which will be implemented through the Special Program for Employment of Students, is in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment.
And since those participating will, in effect, be hired under Capitol’s Summer Job Program, Baguia said they will also get a salary not lower than the minimum wage.
The program was conceptualized by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to honor academic achievers and to inspire them to work in government.
Baguia said there are 453 valedictorians from both public and private high schools across the province this year, the formal list of which will be provided by the Department of Education. — Garry B. Lao/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
