2 in moneychanger robbery charged

CEBU, Philippines - Two men accused of robbing a moneychanger in Paseo Verde in the Ayala Center have been charged with robbery before the Regional Trial Court the other day.

Roy Fernandez, alias “Yoyong” and Albert Almedilla, alias “Albert Walay Sala” have been charged with robbery after being arrested for robbing the GPC Money Changer in Ayala last April 25, 2008.

The complainant Adelaida Ghassemi, owner of the moneychanger, said her tellers Gleceria Sabuero and Elgin Natad reported they were transporting P400,000 to their outlet in Ayala Food and Entertainment Center when the two robbed them.

The two were with .45 cal. pistols and positioned themselves at the entrance of the Ayala Food and Entertainment Center. They managed to disarm the security guard who was assigned to the area.

Fernandez and Almedilla were accompanied by two other suspects who remain at large. Fernandez was allegedly the mastermind of the said robbery and was identified as the one who took the bags from the two tellers.

Subpoenas were sent by the court to the two suspects to file a counter-affidavit but no replies were received. — Jasmin R. Uy/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
