Charges vs. "notorious" robber to be filed today

CEBU, Philippines - A formal complaint for robbery will be filed today against notorious robber Romvic Hermoso who was arrested in barangay Tejero, Cebu City the other day.

Cebu City Police director Patrocinio Comendador Jr. said the formal filing of charges will legitimize Hermoso’s detention. He is temporarily detained at the CCPO stockade.

Hermoso, 33, a resident of Cansojong, Talisay City, was arrested after a long chase with authorities shortly after he and a companion robbed a public utility jeepney in sitio Blessed Sacrament in barangay Tejero.

Comendador said Hermoso’s arrest made a big impact on the campaign against robbery in the city, especially with the suspect’s reported admission that he robbed jeepneys three times a week.

Comendador said the Pari-an Police Station record alone indicate Hermoso being involved in at least five robbery incidents. His name is also reflected in the records of the homicide section of the city police office.

The other day, elements of the Mobile Patrol Group and Theft and Robbery Section of CCPO had caught up with Hermoso who was still bringing belongings of the jeepney passengers he had victimized.

His companion, a certain “Unggoy,” managed to elude arrest.

Hermoso was also imprisoned in Muntinlupa City for a separate robbery case. – Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
