Man indicted for killing neighbor

CEBU, Philippines - A 67-year-old man has been indicted yesterday before the Regional Trial Court for allegedly killing a 35-year-old man who challenged him to a fight last March 8 in Basak, San Nicholas, Cebu City.

Gregorio Fajardo, alias Goring, said he stabbed his neighbor Roland Anobling when the latter challenged him to a fight.

A witness in the incident, Evelyn Ylaya, said while she was sitting with her neighbors outside her house, Anobling came to them and inquired about Fajardo’s whereabouts.

When they pointed to where Fajardo was, Anobling immediately went after him.

The witness then reportedly heard Anobling asking Fajardo, “unsa naa kay dala.” Fajardo then replied, “o naa koy dala.”

Anobling then said, “sige huwat lang diha kay magkuha ko og akoa.”

When Anobling went back, he was bringing with him a piece of wood. They then faced each other for a fight, but before Anobling could hit the suspect with the wood, Fajardo stabbed him in the chest twice that caused his death.

Fajardo was mauled by their neighbors after the incident, but said that it was Anobling who first challenged him to a fight. — Jasmin R. Uy/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
