CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña was greeted by a surprise gift upon his arrival yesterday at the Mactan Cebu International Airport – two brandnew US-made police vehicles donated by Bigfoot Global Solutions.
Nagiel Bañacia, public information officer of the city, said that Michael Gleissner, founder of Bigfoot, offered the two patrol vehicles to the city for use at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Osmeña was so glad when he learned from Bañacia that the two US-made police vehicles — V6 Dodge Charger, which were brought to the airport yesterday, will be donated by the international film maker to Cebu City.
The vehicle manufacturer’s website said a unit of a 2009 Dodge Charger costs $21,468 dollars or close to P1 million pesos if it will be bought directly from its source.
It was learned that such kind of vehicle was among those being used in the movie Transformer.
Bañacia said the police vehicles will be formally turned over to the city by Bigfoot Global Solutions, but he failed to say when.
The mayor who was in the United States since last October 8, arrived Cebu yesterday after he had undergone seven chemotherapy sessions at the Andersons Cancer Center in Houston, Texas to cure the cancer of his urinary bladder.
To recall, Bigfoot has been allowed by the city to rent two hectares at only close to P30 per square meter per month.
Osmeña earlier explained that it is a way to encourage other investors to put up their business at the SRP.
The city had already received P28 million from the Bigfoot as its advance rental for five years.
Bigfoot Entertainment is expected to start its operation at the SRP within this year and Osmeña hopes that it will generate thousands of jobs and it would help solve the unemployment problem in the city. – Rene U. Borromeo/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
