CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the Ombudsman Visayas is preparing for the formal launching this month of the “Oplan Entrapment” against corrupt government officials and employees.
Deputy Ombudsman Pelagio Apostol met yesterday with the officials of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police which will serve as the implementing arm of the project. The anti-graft office has scheduled the launching on March 27.
NBI regional director Medardo de Lemos said even before the project, they have long been conducting entrapment operations against officials and employees accused of shenanigans.
With the impending “Oplan Entrapment,” the days of corrupt officials and employees are already numbered. Apostol earlier said he wanted to leave a legacy of corruption-free Visayas when he leaves his office.
Apostol said that a perceived graft-ridden government agency will be later on identified as pilot agency of the project.
The “Oplan Entrapment,” which will go after the fixers in government office, is a sequel of the “Oplan Anti-Red Plate” earlier launched by the Ombudsman. – Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
