Man arrested for gun facing another charge

-

CEBU, Philippines – Supt. Erson Digal, Cebu Provincial Police director for administration, said that they are set to file another case against Edwin Alvero who was arrested for illegal possession of firearms after at least two shotguns and a .38 cal. revolver were seized from his house in barangay Panas, Consolacion town last Saturday.

Digal said that they would file a separate case against Alvero for “damaging their service vehicle” after the suspect reportedly tried to escape when the arresting team was in the process of serving the search warrant.

It was earlier reported that the raiding team composed of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, Special Reaction Unit, and the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force implemented the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Soliver Peras against Alvero.

Seized during the operation were a 12-gauge shotgun marked “Maverick”, a Mossberg model shotgun with two live bullets, and a nickel-plated .38 cal. revolver with four live bullets.

Based on police records, Alvero tried to elude the raiding team during the implementation of the warrant. When the police arrived at the Alvero’s house, the suspect was about to leave onboard his vehicle.

When Alvero’s wife disembarked to open the gate, the raiding team also got out of their vehicle to introduce themselves. Upon seeing the authorities, Alvero reportedly panicked and stepped on the accelerator, hitting the police vehicle as he drove past them.

But the suspect failed to control the speed of his Isuzu D-Max. The vehicle fell into a ditch. The raiding team rescued him and found he sustained no injuries.

Information gathered that Alvero is a finance manager of an electronic parts processing firm in Danao City. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
