Drunk man run over after falling asleep on the road

CEBU, Philippines – A drunk man’s slumber became his last after he made the wrong choice of bedding —the pavement on a highway.

Police said Reynaldo Belamala fell asleep on the road after having had too much to drink and was killed after being run over by a motorcycle in sitio Balatik, barangay Kawayan, Dalaguete town, last Thursday evening.

PO2 Allan Sanoy of the Dalaguete police said that it was Rex Gonzaga, 21, a resident of barangay Balison, Argao town, who ran over the victim while he was heading home on his Honda XRM motorcycle with plate no. IM-4223.

Sanoy added Gonzaga suffered minor injuries after he fell onto the pavement while Belamala sustained major injuries.

Belamala was brought to the Ildefonso Alcantara Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Gonzaga was detained but yesterday an uncle of the victim told the police they will not press charges against him but settle for an amicable settlement instead. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc and Guam Logroño/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
