Haarlemmermeer gives city P15 million in vehicles, eqpt

-

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City received life-saving vehicles and equipment from its sister city of Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands.

City information officer Nagiel Bañacia said that the vehicles and equipment worth around P15 million were yesterday turned over to Cebu City through the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation.

The donation included a state-of-the-art rescue vehicle, a fire truck, two ambulances, and an inspection vehicle; books, tables, irrigation equipment, and many other items essential in emergency response.

The donation is part of the assurance of Haarlemmermeer officials to help the city in terms of life-saving equipment and techniques, as well as other developmental projects.

Haarlemmermeer’s first contribution to the city was an ambulance sent here in 1991, a year after the city government and ERUF contacted the foreign city in 1990.

Haarlemmermeer City also donated P10 million, the previous year, for the improvement of the Cebu City Medical Center.

Mayor-on-leave Tomas Osmeña then personally received the money in the Netherlands which was used to repair the dilapidated structures of the CCMC.

Aside from the P10-million donation, the city government of Haarlemmermeer had facilitated for the procurement of a brand new garbage compactor machine for the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill.

There are more donations for the CCMC but are currently held in abeyance until CCMC shapes up, Bañacia said. — Ferliza C. Contratista/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
