DSWD gives assistance to Santander, Samboan

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development Central in Visayas (DSWD-7) distributed relief assistance to victims of Typhoon Bising in the municipalities of Santander and Samboan.

To recall, the two towns were hit by flashfloods and landslides early this month due to non-stop rain brought about by Typhoon Bising, damaging houses near creeks, roads, bridges, coastal lines, livestock and crops.

The assistance received by affected residents included food items, toiletries and clothing totaling 600 packs.

The initial number of distributed packs per municipality was based on the data provided by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and different local government units.

Receiving assistance were those greatly affected by the typhoon identified by the local social welfare office, said DSWD-7 officer Grace Yana.

Just last month, DSWD-7 distributed assistance to the town of Dumanjug, whose residents living in coastal areas suffered from damages caused by big waves.

DSWD said that it is always ready to provide assistance to local government units and families in communities ravaged by any form of calamities. —Jessica Ann R. Pareja/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
