Tanod critical after bolo attack
CEBU, Philippines - A barangay tanod in Pilar, Camotes is in critical condition after his relatives hacked him several times in what police suspect was triggered by personal grudge.
The victim was identified as Mario Mesias Mojado, tanod of barangay Villahermosa in Pilar, Camotes while the suspects were identified as father and son Teotimo and Roberto Mesias. The victim and suspects reside in barangay Villahermosa.
The incident happened about 6 a.m. last Sunday when Mojado was heading home after visiting the house of his mother located near the residence of the suspects.
As Mojado passed by the suspects’ house, one of the two reportedly called on him saying, “Unsa man, laban ka imo asawa?” and there and then hacked him with a bolo, hitting the victim on the back.
When Mojado tried to escape, the other suspect pulled out his own bolo and helped in hacking Mojado.
Barangay councilman Bienvenido Romo who learned of the incident immediately called for police assistance and, a few moments later, police officers Jaime Otadoy and Jojit Potot arrived at the scene and arrested the father and son. They also recovered 25-inch bolos from the two suspects.
Mojado was rushed to the MPI health center but was later transferred to a hospital in Ormoc City. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
