CEBU, Philippines - The municipal government of Compostela wants to fully control the operation of the water supply in the town by creating a Compostela Waterworks System.
Compostela Mayor Ritchie Wagas signed an executive order last February 13, this year, creating the water system in the town.
Last November, Wagas sent a communication to the Compostela municipal council asking for authority to create the water system but the said proposal was opposed by the majority bloc.
After the issuance of the executive order last Friday, Wagas invited the members of the council for a conference tomorrow, February 17.
The meeting is aimed at discussing the details and substance of the said executive order and the possibility of “dismembering from the Metro Cebu Water District”.
Wagas said that the thrust of his administration is to have complete control of the water resources in Compostela for the benefit of all concerned.
He said that a series of public consultation will be conducted by his office involving affected residents in the event the termination notice will be formally served to the Local Water Utilities Administration that has control of all water districts in the country, particularly the MCWD. — Jose P.
