Jailguard accused of physical abuse

CEBU - A court interpreter has filed a criminal complaint for alleged physical abuses against her live-in partner who is a jailguard.

Marilyn Avila filed the complaint for violation of the Republic Act 9262, otherwise known as the Violence Against Women and Children’s Act, against Jail Office 2 Manolito Villordon before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office

Avila, a court interpreter at the Municipal Trial Court in Cebu City, said she was beaten up by Villordon in the evening of January 29 while she was on her routine hike at the Minglanilla Elementary School oval.

Avila said that the suspect used to be her live-in partner for seven years and six months but she decided to leave him last year because of alleged physical abuses she suffered from his hands.

According to Avila, despite her living away from Villordon, the latter allegedly continue to harass her but she just ignored him. However, in the evening of January 29, the suspect assaulted her without any provocation.

Avila said Villordon’s girlfriend approached her first and uttered defamatory words. Avila said she just ignored it to avoid trouble and continue her hiking instead.

But after completing a round of hike at the oval, Villordon’s girlfriend whom she identified as Maribel Caballero, reportedly grabbed her from behind and hit her head.

Villordon, instead of pacifying, allegedly boxed her on the lower left eye. The mother and other relatives of Caballero also allegedly mauled her.

Avila said she was fortunate that a policeman came out from the gym and escorted her to the police station. — Fred P. Languido/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
