Cebu mayors thank Zubiri for P.5 million in aid

CEBU – Cebu municipal mayors expressed their thanks to Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri for the P1-million financial assistance given to each municipality for the implementation of different priority projects.

Cebu municipal mayors league president Cesar Baricuatro said after the 2007 elections Zubiri had rounds in the different municipalities and cities in Cebu province and promised to allocate P1 million in financial assistance to every town and city.

The senator made the promise to express his thanks to the Cebuanos for the support given to him during the elections.

Zubiri has already released an initial amount of P.5 million to every municipality and city in Cebu.

Sogod Mayor Lisa Marie Durano who received the amount and used it to expand the Municipal Hall of Sogod.

Durano said the existing municipal hall is too small to accommodate the increasing number of people.

“Siya ra gayud nga senador ang mituman sa iyang saad human sa eleksyon,” she said.

In Danao City, the city government used their P.5 million for the putting up of a water desalination plant to address the lack of water supply of the Durano-Macapagal fish port.

Danao City Councilor Mark Mix Durano said that Zubiri approved their request to use the amount to finance the project.

Santander Mayor Wilson Wenceslao told The FREEMAN that he used his P.5 million to improve the mountain barangays in his town, especially the farm-to-market roads.

Mayors in southern towns used the financial assistance of Zubiri in putting up a satellite market, improve the municipal complex, birthing center and roads.

Borbon Municipal Mayor Bernard “Butch” Sepulveda said the municipal government used the financial assistance of the senator in purchasing heavy equipment for the opening of roads in the mountain barangays.

Compostela Mayor Ritchie Wagas used the financial assistance of Senator Zubiri for the swine dispersal program of the municipal government.

In Mandaue City, Mayor Jonas Cortes used the financial assistance of the senator in constructing a fire sub-station in barangay Basak.

Zubiri, who personally conducted an inspection of the projects, assured the mayors for the immediate release of remaining balance of P.5 million. — Jose P. Sollano/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
