Child abuse case filed vs. official of DSWD
Cebu - The Sangguniang Kabataan president of Tudela has filed a criminal complaint for child abuse against the Department of Social Welfare and Development officer of the town for calling her corrupt.
SK president Arrianne Solante Capao, 16, filed the complaint before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against social welfare office Isabel Polancos.
Capao alleged that she was humiliated by Polancos’ defamatory words in front of many people in their place.
The incident stemmed from a project that she, as SK president, organized for the out-of-school youth in their town.
On January 27 at about 8:00 a.m., Polancos allegedly went to her house to ask for the project proposal of the training.
Capao said she told Polancos that she already submitted it and that she saw it placed on top of Polancos’ table in her office. But Polancos then allegedly uttered defamatory words in front of the many people in their place.
Capao said her father got mad about the incident, prompting them to follow Polancos to her office.
At the DSWD office, Capao’s father confronted Polancos about her defamatory remarks towards his daughter and at the same time helped find the folder containing the project proposal.
In deed, the project proposal was allegedly found on top of Polancos’ table. Polancos, however, reportedly did not stop throwing unsavory words against her including the allegations of corruption.
Capao said that in front of her father, Polancos allegedly accused her of stealing P40,000. The respondent also allegedly accused her father of teaching her shenanigans.
Capao said that the incident caused her sleepless nights because of the humiliation she suffered.
Since Capao is a minor, she accused the DSWD officer of violating the Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as the Child Abuse Law. — Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
