Cebu - The nephew of Mayor Alfredo Arquillano of San Francisco town was placed under arrest late evening Tuesday after he allegedly harassed a store owner and fired his gun indiscriminately in Northern Poblacion of the said town.
Police yesterday filed charges for indiscriminate firing and illegal possession of firearm against Margarito Arquillano Jr., 36, a resident of Western Poblacion, San Francisco.
Confiscated from him were a .45 caliber pistol, five empty shells, and live ammunition.
Police are also looking into the possibility that the suspect might be involved in the illegal numbers game after tip sheets were also confiscated from him.
Cebu Provincial Police Director Carmelo Valmoria said that around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, store owner Fe Relampagos reported to the police that Margarito allegedly harassed her by firing his gun. Relampagos owns the store where Margarito was drinking liquor.
Members of the San Francisco police then went to Northern Poblacion where they found the suspect. Already drunk, Margarito reportedly even tried to resist arrest.
Margarito would later say he never had a serious clash with anyone but was just out of himself and felt like firing his gun at that time.
“Ni-estorya ni sya nako dihang gidala sa presinto nga wala man kuno siyay kontra… mura lang gud daw siya ug giyawa-an niadtong higayuna diin ganahan kaayo siya magpabuto sa iyang armas,” said PO3 Mario Abasolo.
San Francisco police chief Ciriaco Larrobis Jr. said Margarito’s relatives allegedly tried to convince them not to pursue the case against the suspect but they did not give in to the request. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc and Guam Logroño of Banat News/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
