Man shot to death over "unpaid" debt
Cebu - A 55-year-old year old man was shot to death by another man whom the victim accused of failing to pay him a debt of P2,000.
The suspect, Jerry Roble Barriga, later surrendered to the police and admitted shooting the victim, Artemio Sabares Sr. The incident happened at the suspect’s house in barangay Masaba, Danao City the other day.
Investigation revealed that Sabares and his wife Fransisca went to Barriga’s house to claim the P2,000 Barriga reportedly owed the victim.
Barriga told policemen insisted he already gave his payment to Sabares’ son August last year but the victim reportedly did not believe him and tried to forcefully take away his gun’s paraphernalia.
A heated argument then ensued between victim and the accused, which resulted to Sabares pulling out his revolver and shoot Barriga and latter’s wife. The couple, luckily, was able to dodge.
Barriga said that prompted him to get his own gun and shoot Sabares. The victim sustained wounds on his right face, right hand, back, and the right portion of his body.
Sabares’ relatives rushed the victim to the Danao District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. — Bentley Naire Luyong/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
